I checked on the prices for this hotel, Hotel Violino. It is 3 star, but got good reviews on Trip Advisor. The standard room is 115 euro/night, the superior is 130 euro/night and a superior with canal view is 145 euro/night for the times that we will be there. It is near the vaparetto stop and the gondola stop. Near San Marco square and upscale shopping. One review said that their canal view room was a little noisey with people talking, etc. but most said it was a quiet hotel with friendly staff. Go to TripAvisor.com to read the reviews.

From looking at the pictures it seems it would be noisy if all of the gondoliers were right there and your room was on the canal. Maybe we should ask on Cruise Critic. I know you can always find negative comments, but I am not sure if being right in the middle of things is a good or a bad idea. The price seems good!
Yes, I thought that it did look from the pictures that it could be noisey, so was not too sure either. On the TripAdvisor site the reviews only, I think, once had someone who was really pissed about the noise, so I thought it might be taking a chance that you did not get whatever that room was. It is one thing to ask for a quiet room and another to get it. Check out some of the reviews. Maybe we can e-mail the place and ask about the possiblity of getting two quiet room with canal views, or if that is really possible given the location
