Barcelona Info from Alex

Here are two Barcelona Hotels recommended by Alex:

Fira Palace - $396/night (this is less than the web site quote of 330 euros) this looks like a VERY nice place, includes breakfast

Hotel Barcelona Center - $278/night (this is less than the web site quote of 260 euros), this also looks nice although I could not find pictures of the rooms, includes breakfast

Alex had also suggested the Claris Hotel in Barcelona which she said was 306 euros. Breakfast?

Carol found the Hotel Granados 83 which was about 182 euros. Breakfast?

I found the Hotel Pulitzer which was about 195 euros ($285/night). Breakfast?

Finally Alex reports that grabbing a taxi at the airport is probably cheaper than arranging a transfer and that "taxis run approximately 25 Euros. From the hotel to the pier is quite close and should be about half that price. Embarkation begins at 4pm and Celebrity has sailing time at 7pm presently."

P.S. There is a link to a euro converter on the right panel of the blog if you want to see how many dollars a euro equals!

I looked at the Barcelona hotels and the one I like best was the one Kay found. It seems like it would be just great and the price is right. They even say you can take the train from the airport (whereever Terminal A is) to within a minute of the hotel! for only 2,20 euros!! Better then the cab for 30 euros. So that would be my choice.

Actually, if Alex can get the Barcelona Center Hotel for $278 including breakfast, I think we should probably go with that. The rooms look somewhat larger than the Pulitzer which would be about $285 (and I could not tell if it included breakfast).

Any other votes?

Boy, Barcelona is a tough place to get a hotel that is reasonable without being a business hotel that looks like Motel 6 in a highrise! I have looked at a lot of hotels this afternoon. American Express gave me the names of 2, but I had said we were looking for something not too expensive. Well, I would not stay in those! First of all, they seemed miles from where we actually want to be and they looked depressing. Not that they were rundown, but just so utilitarian. I would rather pay more.

I forwarded you an e-mail from Alex, she says that people have not yet started making reservations through her for the trip.

Thanks for doing the search. If we can get Alex to do the Barcelona Center, maybe we should just go ahead and do it.

Also, Carol, there were the places recommended by Karen Brown. There are a couple of posts near the beginning about Barcelona.
